Dining tables and tabs

Last updated: 26 Oct 2026

Dining lets the register run open tabs on tables. A tab is an ordinary POS cart attached to a table; it stays open while the guests order and closes when the cart is checked out. Dining is enabled per organization by SERVOS, so if you don't see Dining in the sidebar, it isn't on for you.

Setting up tables

Dining → Tables lists your tables. Press Add table and give it a "Name" ("Table 1"), "Seats", and leave "Active" on so it shows in the register. Switch "Active" off to hide a table without losing it. Remove deletes a table that never had a tab and archives one that did, which keeps the history.

Seats is for your reference. It doesn't limit anything.

Running tabs at the register

Tables in the POS rail shows the active tables as tiles. A dashed tile is free; a solid one has an open tab, with a timer counting from when it was opened (amber after 45 minutes, red after 90) and a "Paying" badge while a payment is in progress.

Tap a free table and SERVOS opens a tab, a fresh cart named after the table, and makes it the active cart. Add items as you would to any cart. Tap an occupied table to switch to its tab; the cart header shows the table's name, and Carts lists it with the table name.

To close a tab, check the cart out. The table is free again the moment the order completes. Whoever is at the register can pick up any table's tab; tabs aren't tied to a staff member.

What a tab can't do yet

No splitting a bill, no moving items between tables, no merging tables, no courses or kitchen tickets, no seating plan. One tab per table, settled in one checkout. If a party wants to split, settle the tab with Mark as unpaid and take the parts as separate payments from the order page.

Common questions

I opened a tab on the wrong table. A tab opens the moment you tap a free table, even before anything is ordered. An empty tab doesn't show under Carts, and clearing its items doesn't free the table. Add the items to the right table, and complete the wrong one's checkout as soon as it has something on it, or leave it; it doesn't block anything else.

Two tables want to pay together. Check out each tab separately. Tabs can't be merged.

Can I see what's on a table without opening it? Not from the tiles. Tap the table to switch to its tab and read the cart, then tap another table or start a new cart to move on.
